New York voters have multiple options for casting a ballot before Election Day, including early voting and early mail or absentee voting. With several important deadlines falling on the same day, it’s worth getting your voting plan in place early.
Here’s what to put on your calendar:
October 24th: Check Your Registration
October 24 is the deadline to register to vote or update your registration for the general election. If you’ve recently moved or need to update your information, you can use our voter registration portal to make sure you take care of it before this deadline.
October 24th-November 1st: Early Voting Is Open
New York’s early voting period runs from October 24 through November 1. Locations and hours vary by county, and New York City voters are assigned a specific early voting location.
October 24th: Planning To Vote By Mail
October 24 is also the deadline to request an early mail or absentee ballot online or by mail. If voting by mail is your plan, be sure that your request is received by your County Board of Elections before the deadline.
November 2nd: Last Day To Request Ballot By Mail
If you need to request an early mail or absentee ballot in person, November 2 is your final opportunity. Requests must be made at your county Board of Elections.
November 3rd: Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and returned according to state requirements.
