About Us

Courier New York is a statewide newsroom built for how people consume information today. We bring local news and information to the online spaces New Yorkers already spend their time—on social media, in their inbox, and on our website.

Our focus is simple: clear, fact-based reporting about what’s happening across New York—and what it means for you. From policy decisions to everyday issues, we connect the dots so you can see what it means for your life.

At a time when local newsrooms are shrinking, too many communities are left without reliable information. We’re working to fill that gap by delivering credible reporting that helps you make sense of what’s happening around you—and what you can do about it.

You won’t find a paywall here. We believe good information should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income.

Our goal is to strengthen communities across New York by making information easier to understand, easier to access, and more useful in your day-to-day life. That’s why we share our values right here, up front, so that all readers can see why we do what we do.

At Courier New York, we believe in:

  • Centering our audience in all of our reporting: We are focused on lifting up the shared experience of living, working, and raising families in New York. Because of that, many of our stories cover efforts to strengthen communities, expand access to health care and child care, address the climate crisis, and reduce inequality in all forms—that’s what matters to New Yorkers. We will publish our work where our audiences are, and when they move to new platforms or technologies, our brands and journalists will follow.
  • A living wage for a hard day’s work: We have seen our economy change dramatically over the years—and not always to the benefit of workers. More New Yorkers than ever require two or more jobs to make ends meet. We believe workers should have access to good information, and be rewarded for their labor with good wages and benefits—not lied to or pitted against each other by politicians or wealthy CEOs who don’t respect them.
  • A quality education for all families: Children in New York and across the country deserve every opportunity to receive a quality public education in safe, clean schools. Their classrooms should be free from political interference, their educators should be respected and well-paid, and their communities should be places where parents, students, and school staff work together to raise our future generations.
  • A New York that’s representative of all citizens: We believe everyone’s experience matters here. Our goal is to ensure communities who are often targeted and hurt by policy decisions have access to the information they need to understand what’s at stake and decide who has their best interests at heart.
  • A strong democracy: Access to the ballot box is essential for New Yorkers to have a say in how our state is run. A strong electorate is also an informed electorate, and one not divided by fear and lies.

Launched in May 2026, Courier New York is dedicated to providing honest, relevant news for and about the Empire State. We are proud of our commitment to the facts and our belief in our state and all it has to offer. here, up front, so that all readers can see why we do what we do.

About Courier Newsroom

Courier New York is owned and operated by Courier Newsroom, an independent media network arming Americans with truth and power to act.

We reach audiences who are not regularly engaging with civic information, and who are unlikely to subscribe to paywalled journalism. As part of that effort, we deliver much of our reporting on the social platforms our readers use most frequently.

Courier’s newsrooms practice independent, point-of-view journalism. Courier Newsroom is a public benefit corporation owned by Good Information Inc., and is supported by reader contributions, sponsors, philanthropic donations, and corporate underwriting. We maintain an editorial firewall between our newsrooms and underwriters, sponsors, and donors.

See Courier’s website for additional information about our national team and our funding model.
