A mother went to jail for her trans kids. Then NYC cut their care

“NYU is capitulating in advance to a Trump regime,” said the mother of two transgender children, Christen Clifford.

Clifford said her family has been blindsided twice by NYU Langone—first when the hospital quietly cut gender-affirming care for trans minors earlier this year, and again this week, when her child was denied medication out of fear the prescription would be flagged to the federal government.

NYU Langone and Mount Sinai have stopped offering gender-affirming care to trans youth, even as they continue offering the same care to adults. The reason: fear of losing federal funding under Trump.

In May, federal prosecutors in Texas subpoenaed six years of private medical records belonging to transgender minors treated at NYU Langone and New York-Presbyterian.

A judge has since blocked that subpoena, but families say the fight is far from over.
