A quarter-century has passed since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 2,977 people at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The toll has continued to grow in the years since, as first responders and others have passed from illnesses linked to the attacks.
As the 25th anniversary approaches, communities across the Hudson Valley will come together to remember those who were lost, honor survivors and recognize the first responders and others who have carried the legacy of 9/11. Memorial services, ceremonies and other observances will take place throughout the region.

Sept. 11 observances in Westchester County
Westchester County will hold a two-day event to honor the memory of residents who passed due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
The first event will be an Interfaith Prayer Vigil at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 10 at Kensico Dam Plaza’s The Rising and 9/11 First Responders Memorial. On Friday, Sept. 11, there will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Kensico Dam Plaza.

- Ardsley: A “We Will Never Forget” 9/11 memorial ceremony will take place at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11. The event will be at Firefighter Park in Ardsley, New York, located at the intersection of Ashford Avenue and Saw Mill River Road.
- Croton on Hudson, Buchanan, Cortlandt: The tri municipal “Reaching Through the Shadow” memorial at Croton Landing honors those lost on 9/11 as well as first and second responders and military service members. The event begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
- Irvington: The Village of Irvington will hold its 9/11 ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Scenic Hudson Park. The ceremony is open to all.
- White Plains: A 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will be held at Liberty Park at the White Plains 9/11 Memorial.
- New Rochelle: A 9/11 remembrance ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, on the front lawn of City Hall, 515 North Ave.
- Rye: A 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Rye Firehouse, 15 Locust Ave.
Putnam and Rockland County Sept. 11 observances
- Brewster: A 9/11 remembrance ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Brewster Fire Department, 515 Route 312.
- Suffern: A 9/11 memorial ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, outside Suffern Village Hall, 61 Washington Ave. A barbecue at the village gazebo will follow the ceremony.
- Tappan: The Tappan Fire Department will hold a 9/11 memorial dedication service at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Tappan Memorial Triangle, 123 Washington St. Coffee and other refreshments will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m.
- West Haverstraw: Rockland County’s 9/11 memorial ceremony will be at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the county’s 9/11 memorial, Haverstraw Bay Park, 2 Gagan Road.
